It's consciousness resides in the skull on it's back. It can move around but it always stays connected to it's main cat body. Skrat can see from all four of it's eyes, and feel the same things the cat is feeling. Despite how it may appear, it was born with the skull on it's back, and the cat itself appears quite happy to be used as a host.
Skrat is Basic type, and comes from the Enchanting Tribe

Name Origin
Skrat's name is a combination of "Skull" and "Cat". We don't know where the R came from either.
Skrat's Turkish name, Kediskelet, comes from "Kedi", meaning cat, and "Iskelet", meaning skeleton.
